Mk 4 Golf Passenger Air Bag.....
Discussion
Does anyone know how to deactivate the Passenger airbag on a Mk4 Golf to allow a rear facing baby seat in the front?
VW will deactivate it for around £50, but apparently you must sign a disclaimer to waive their responsibility, should it still go off.
Is it safe to put your child in the front once it has been deactivated?

I thought most modern motors came with key operated switch off.
If not, it's most likely just plug in a diagnostics computer and deactivate that airbag. You could disconnect the battery, and unplug the unit manually, but when you reconnect battery, the airbag light may be on... i'm not sure about that.
Either way, a small garage or scrappy could have the right computer, and you'd save 20-30 quid. You could also try a company called Polar. good luck
