How do you tell the difference...

...between a Tiptronic and a Multitronic? Is there any visual difference from the driver's seat? I'm aware that the Multi is a CVT and also that it is apparently troublesome...

It depends on the engine as to which gearbosx it will have... Anything that is Quattro or bigger engines will have the Tip box.

If it is a late model yr car then it will be a 7 sp Multitronic, so when you move the level across in the gate you will get 1 - 7 as opposed to 1 - 6 as with the Tip.

Thanks - definitely looking at Quattros, with big engines. 4.2 A6's are in short supply around Houston, but not as short as S6's!
