Yup, you read it..... bought the thing from a reputable guy so assume it's straight etc. It's getting about 38 MPG and that's with my wife driving!! Is this right? I'd hoped that it was going to be better than this! Any chipping solutions that would improve this?

My wife has had the following........2.5 TDI TIP QUATTRO ALLROAD 25 MPG

A 03 1.9 130 Manual 2wd did average 45 mpg

I think the 4 wheels drive adds weight and saps power thus uses fuel.

Is it low mileage? They need to loosen up before delivering decent mpg. Also, is she driving around town, especially short journeys? Diesels give the best economy on the open road, not in town.

No, it has higher miles and is getting this across the board -town and open road.

Maybe your trip computer is knackered? You can't get the same figures for open road and town.

I'd get a diagnostic thingumpy run on it. May be something as simple as a dodgy Lamdba sensor (or wiring) or a dodgy Air Mass Meter.

I get mid 40s from an A3 2.0 TDi 2 wheel drive - so 38 doesn't sound that wide of the mark to me for yours

sorry

a friend of mine has a A4 130 quattro. his average is 43mpg (OBC -in reality it is more like 40/41 he says). but he does 90% motorway mileage. 38mpg sounds about right from speaking to my friend, his mixed driving gets him 37mpg according computer when he isn't doing motorways miles all the time.

I get 47 mpg from my X Reg A4 1.9 Tdi SE (115bhp)(Non quattro). I would expect a little less from the avant quattro due to the extra weight but not 9 mpg less. What are the official figures meant to be?

The non-Quattro version of this car regularly returns 50+ mpg on a run, so I would assume there is a minor problem, as someone else has suggested, such as the MAF sensor etc.
I wouldn't have thought that the Quattro system would have affected the MPG to this degree.

I have a brand spanking new A4 2.0 TDI 170ps ..... getting about 35mpg at the moment whilst running in ( 200 miles on the clock)

Expecting ( hoping) this will improve to mid 40's when things have loosened up

The wifes Passat Tdi 90 estate does "at least" 850 miles on 70L's of dinojuice, minimum!!!.

yikes Thats 55-65mpg territry for average driving its frankly astonishingly economical & its done 175k!

I must admit there is a technique to keep it eco, don't rev it simple as that, if your used to petrol cars you have drive them completely differently, use the torque of taller gears in town ours cruises at exactly 30mph in fifth on tickover and the trip says 70 odd mpg doing that & it'll still pull away if you want it too.

Hi, I'm new on this site but like to share the following:
Audi A4 Avant Quattro TDI 190 HP approx 80,000 miles giving me on A Roads approx 50MPG. However recently drove to Andover approx 280 mile trip one way and achieved 63.5 MPG.

I believe the reason i achieve those MPG's on 190 brake quattro is the following:
1. Check tyre pressures monthly. 37 PSI on 19 inch summer tyres (Nexen Fera)
2. Service every 10,000 with flush, carbon clean, etc.
3. Use better fuel than the normal stuff thats available on the forecourt. Can be around 1.60 a litre.
4. Drive efficiently i.e. when going on a decline foot is taken of the gas, approaching lights foot is taken off the gas, pre-emt other drivers actions that aids efficient driving, try not to use brakes as much with careful planning of reading the road and whats in front of you.
5. I occasionally do accelerate hard at times when stood at lights just for the excitement and to benefit the turbo and discharge the soot however my engine is very clean currently at 80,000. Still running sweet I think not like i want to jinxes myself.
