Thinking of buying an S6 (2001 ish).

a) How reliable are they?

b) Are they quite rare - Autotrader doesn't find too many.

c) How much should I pay for a 2001 ish?

Cheers.

I sold my 2000 S6 in April this year on 98,500 miles. Reliable, as in it never let me down, but not cheap to run. I had a pair of new rear lower arms (the bushes are integral to them on the S6, unlike the normal A6, so you have to replace the whole things when the bushes go - fortunately the parts aren't as expensive as you might think and labour isn't too great). Also had a new pair of heads but I think that's partly my own fault for overfilling the oil at some point. New lambda sensor is also common, new cambelt at 80k miles (done before I got mine but apparently pricey).

Great car though.

Hi,

I bought mine a few months ago (2001 Silver Saloon) and so far no problems at all, touch wood. They are pretty rare, but they do turn up so keep looking.

For a fully loaded car with SAT NAV+, Bose cruise etc. you should be able to get a good one with full Audi service history for less than £15k. I am still loving mione, it is so discrete, so comfortable yet an almighty cruiser.
