TT Long-service Oil
Discussion
Can anyone tell me what mainstream brands are available for the 225 Quattro on a long-service interval (and of course any of the shared engine derivatives). I'm sure Audi will multiply the real cost by their grannies age to reach ther retail point, so wondered which would be the right stuff from Halfords etc.
I suggest if this is your own car (i.e. not on a lease/co. car), then you get it off the long life service if you plan on keeping the car past 80-90k. Various indies have recently mentioned to me about problems occurring such as blocked oil feed pipes in sump (guess the consequences).
Halfords do sell a correct type of oil I think - check with the guys on the tt-forum.co.uk.

Cheers guys - dufus that I am hadn't thought of German & Swedish, think there's still one near me.
My car's only done 26k and I intend to keep it for 12-18months really (well history says I will!), so should be clear of it by the time I get to the scarier mileages! Plus I'm sure Audi would love it to be off of the long-life servicing anyway!

Basically VaG group have their own very special set of oil specs for the Longlife Service routines on petrols and diesels. I think for petrols the spec is VW 503.x and for diesels it is 506 & latterly 507.x.
They have confused the hell out of the punters with all this stuff, but if you are carefull and just look for these specs you'll be okay. In the case of the very special 506 & 507 diesel oil specs, they can be hard to find in garages etc, but the usual stuff is either Castrol SLX Longlife but is noe re-branded as the ultra confusing Castrol Edge oils. All of these look the same so you have to read the label very carefully to check the viscosity and spec.
I am reliably informed that VaG cars are factory filled with Fuchs oil, which I am pretty sure they sell for a reasonable price in Eurocarparts, this is considered the best option of all.
