To remap or not to re map???

Newbie to site hello everyone. I'm the proud owner of a MK5 Golf GTI with the need of more BHP. Has anyone out there had there 2000 FSI turbo motor remapped? If so were and would you recomend it or not? Is there any chance my car will go bang?
