i have a a4 1.8t quattro sport w/2000 with 61k on the clock. has any one had any problems with the oil light coming on? it always happens when i have been driving 60/70mph and i come into a 30 zone or have to slow up for some reason, when the car gets to 1800 revs the oil light beeps and flashes. it goes out as soon as you speed up again. really annoying about town!

You have a oil blockage in the pick up pipe.
Change the oil using a good motor flush such as Forte, if this does not cure it you will need to remove the sump and clean the oil strainer and pick up pipe. Do this soon at the turbo will be the first to go as any interuption in feed will run the bearings out.

You need to change the oil from the long life oil onto regular oil. This is becoming a common problem on 1.8T engined cars on the long life oil service.

Before stripping the engine down, check the sensor and or relays, these were notoriously breaking down on the old Audi coupes and is a very common fault with them. It might save you a lot of time, effort, scraped knuckles and money.

A simple check on vagcom will tell you if your oil pressure sensor is faulty, short to ground open circuit etc may be shown. The old senders often leak oil, causing a short setting off the oil pressure light. Not seen a sender fail on a car newer than 98 yet?

The pre described fault on 1.8T engines is well known in dealer and good independant garages. To a degree most garages will now use Forte flush and non long life oil.

VAG oil pressure senders are cr4p - my Golf does this too.
