I think the mirrors may have been standard on the very early cars however not 100% on that, and as the others have said it's got nothing to do with either the facelift or the move to 225BHP (which are not the same thing) if you go looking on the sticker in the service book or boot it will show 154KW for the 210bhp and 165KW for the 225BHP.
Be warned that there is a regular cottage industry going on which involves scumbags relieving unwary S3s of their alloy wingmirrors and selling them on eBay. If you're really unlucky, the whole wingmirror gets wrenched off, not just the housing.
Never happened to me but I heard of it happening to many and my local dealer (Docklands Audi) used to remove the alloy covers from all the S3s on their forecourt as otherwise apparently it took about 40 seconds for them to vanish.

Remember seeing several cars in Docklands Audi with missing mirrors. Even with CCTV it doesn't seem to stop them. Salesman there told me a story about doing the morning forecourt check and having missed the fact that 3 TTs were up on bricks with missing wheels.
My advice is that you are better off without them. If you really like them there are many replica covers on the market for cheap. In.Pro make some which I think are available here: www.jbrperformance.co.uk/
