Hi

Im currently looking to buy a high miler MK5 golf when they become available,

does anyone know when the cambelt is meant to be replaced?

is this a big job on the MK5?

P.S looking for the 2.0 GT TDI hopefully, if not it will be the 1.9TDI

hi think it's 60,000 miles on the mk5 or every 6 years its not a big job but is costly as its done as part of a 60,000 mile servive and there are other items changed like pollen filer and oil etc, I would recomend that you use genuine parts and at the same time when the cambelt is changed to fit new tensioners and a water pump this is advantageous cause you get the anti freeze change and there's now worry of anything failing, the water pump is and exchange item and is definatly worth changing as the vains which pump the water around the engine are made from plastic and can break away causing even more problems later on
