Occasionally the car has a sudden loss of power. Not all the power goes, it will still do 70 mph on the motorway but going uphill requires 4th gear, where normally it would fly up no probs. It appears as a sudden power loss as I drive along as though I've taken my foot off the throttle a little way. Another clue is that the instant mpg reading does not go ve4ry low, almost as if operating at part throttle even when the pedal is welded to the floor. Normally at, say 60mph then flooring the throttle will result in rapid progress and a 20-25 mpg figure. This time it is slow progress and a 40 mpg figure. Lastly the situation resolves itself if the engine is turned off then on again. I suspect electronics, maybe rheostat. Any thought please???

Is it the engine switch off, or the complete removal of pressure from the accelerator that 'cures' it?

Don't know chuff all about electronics, but the same thing happened in my mk3 golf and it turned out to be a piece of placky at eth engine end of the throttle cable. Fully releasing pressure allowed teh placky bit to settle out of teh way, but full acceleration allowed it to 'drop' into eth way again and restrict throttle.

Worth a check.....

Electronics? no idea pal.... go see someone....

complete switch off cures it, throttle position does nothing.
Almost like re-booting a computer 'cures' problems

thanks anyway
