Pics of Phaeton needed
Discussion
Don't come round here often.
I've discovered the little gem in the Phaeton the other day as my daily exec uberwagon. 5.0 V10 diesel... mmm... 525lbs/ft of torque!!!
Now what I'm trying to work out is; is the Phaeton so ugly, it's pretty? or just plain ugly?
Any cool pics floating about out there on the interweb?
Thanks for any posts

Thanks for the heads up d1bble
The Phaeton V10 is a great car - great because it gives so much without shouting about it.
Looks-wise it's the love-child of a VW Passat and an Audi A8 (makes sense really), although I personally think it looks better than either - the back slopes beautifully and the LWB format of the V10 model makes the car seem lower too.
The engine - well, it's just awesome. A month or two back I had daily access to a 996 Turbo as well as my Phaeton, and there were plenty of times when the VW was the preferred choice. Grunt is phenomenal(sp?) and the car pulls with conviction in any gear and from any speed. Kickdown with the auto box at motorway speeds and the Porsche would not have been able to keep up, it's that quick. Fuel consumption suffers as a result but hey, a petrol would be no better. My average consumption hovers around the 20MPG mark but motorway driving can see that rise a wee bit.
Interior build quality is top-notch - a Bentley would be no better - and life in the cabin quiet and refined. I've never been in a car with more electronic gizmos and gadgets, everything is electrically-adjustable and the front seats are heated AND cooled, which is far more useful than it sounds. The audio system is also fantastic.
Critisisms - Well, the car is bloody big. It feels okay to drive and doesn't overwhelm, but car-parking spaces are what they are and this car is a bugger to put in one...although the front/rear parking radar helps. I don't personally like the sound of the engine - it sounds a bit too raw - but then it's each to their own. I also don't like the wood trim in the cabin and on the dashboard, but I guess some models won't have that.
Then there's the price. I inherited my car so basically it was a freebie, but had I purchased it with my own money it would have cost a lot. £70k or thereabouts. Now that's a lot of wonga and it could buy from a wide choice of cars. Top-of-the-range models from nearly every range can be had for this sort of money, and most will come with a better badge than 'VW'. If you're remotely bothered about having a car as a status symbol then it's time to look elsewhere, as most people won't even give the car a second glance.

What about the 6Ltr W12...
To quote, “Unlike other luxury cars, the Phaeton was designed so that all its systems could cope with a sustained speed of 300kph (186mph) rather than the usual 250kph (155mph). For example, the W12 is the only car at any price that can be driven at 300kph in an ambient temperature of 50 degrees centigrade and still maintain an ambient temperature of 22 degrees centigrade.”
