Hello everyone, I am hoping that some of you out there will be able to help me, i am looking to buy a new car, an the Corrado VR6 is the one i would like.

I would therefore ask anyone around for anything to look for when buying one, any known faults, or anything else that i will need to know to enable me to get one that will be a dream not a nightmare.

Thanks.

Usual stuff + rust, electric spoiler not functioning, sunroof not functioning, damaged bumpers (they're expensive). Being a Golf the rear brakes should be in tip-top condition, not expensive to fix just a pain in the bum.

Any signs of overheating or HGF. Rattly timing chains.

Dampers and bushes need to be in good shape or you'll be dissapointed by old soggy car feeling rather than wowed by mini supercar feeling.

Engine should feel creamy smooth, along with the gear change and clutch take-up.

Dampers and bushes are easy to replace, as are the brakes, so if a candidate car is lacking in those areas then it is a bargaining chip rather than a cause to walk away.

Bumpers are indeed expensive, as are all the Karmann parts. However, much of the mechanicals are Golf or Passat and hence cheap.

Door locks and sunroof are known areas of weakness, but as I said to someone the other day, most of the problems with the Corrado are known problems and they are always easier to diagnose and fix than unknown problems.

Some Corrado VR6s are very reliable and others less so, so the trick is to get a good one.
