Hi

Just purchased one of these (pics to follow) it is a 1993 L reg, with 144K and 1 previous owner, nearly full Audi Dealer Service History (last 2 services not stamped in book - so not sure if been done, oil is very clean and air con blowing ice cold, so maybe).

I would like to hear from anyone who owns / has owned one of these cars, if there are any points of weakness I should be aware of etc. I know the cam belt should be done at every 60,000 miles so mine should have had 2 changes, I will be getting this checked ASAP.

The suspension feels slightly soft and I am going to consider changing this? Does anyone have any recommendations? Should I get standard bits from GSF? Or perhaps go for some after market stuff from the likes of Koni / Eibach / Bilstein?

Finally, the car feels slightly unresponsive, and in fact a little slow compared to my friends VW Vento VR6 (admittadly this is a very healthy car with 110K on clock) both cars are 174BHP standard and my friends VR6 only benefits from a BMC air filter. Any suggestions on how I may improve responsiveness?

Thanks

Congratulations Audi Coupe's are lovely solid reliable cars.

I am not so au fait with the v6 as I drive an S2 myself but will try and help.

In S2 Circles, the Bilstein is the best replacement shock in terms of keeping it as close to standard but uprated. I have these with standard springs and they are excellent.

Koni's are okay too but can be hard with lowered springs. The best lowered springs are H$R's if you are going that route and many people choose to use the billys with them too.

I would not worry about the drive train and mechanicals as they are generally bullet proof.

As for the running issues, I am not sure. The car is obviously heavier than the vento, but should pull very cleanly and strongly.

Cheers,

Steve.

If you go for sports shocks etc, don't expect any form of ride quality.

The Bilsteins with standard springs (-20mm over the 2.8 model) on my S2 are lovely, firm but not at all crashy or unconfortable.

Both my Audis, albeit 100s have had lowered suspension. The bilsteins on the 2.8 were hard but just about ok, and the eibach/koni setup on the S4 was unbearable.

Cheers Guys for that info.

A mate of mine (Audi mechanic) recommended the Koni / Eibach set up as he had this in a Golf VR6 of his - I do remember it being pretty hard though! The Koni / Eibach kit is also expensive - but apparently very hard wearing.

I think if I can find some Bilstein kit for a decent price I will probably go with that.

Thanks again guys, I hope to upload some pics on the weekend.

Nick
