Will there be one? Tempted by new S3 but wondering if it's worth waiting?

Last week's Autocar was talking about it happening, IIRC.

Last YEAR's Autocar was also talking about it happening too. An Audi spokesman was heard saying that RS models would only be for 4 series and 6 series cars. I would not count on their being an RS3 if I were you. Get an S3 and remap it and it will be more than fast enough in the real world.

I wonder how close to maximum potential the 2.0 TFSI is running at in the S3. I can't imagine there'll be a whole lot of room for improvement from a simple remap.

The S3 does not have the same setup as the rest of the 2.0T engines. Some internals are changed and it has a larger turbo. I would hope there was room for some improvement, although there's no way to know until someone tries it!

Marc is right - it also has better intercoolers etc so it should be able to be remapped pretty well, that said it is already pushing 1.2bar peak boost so it's pretty hairy as it is.

I'd also agree the only official news I've ever seen was saying the RS badge would be reserved to the 4 and 6, that said if BMW think there's a market for an M1 and make it, who knows.

I've just re-read the Autocar article. It mentions a TT RS is proposed with a 3.2 V6, and implies that an RS3 would be easier from this formula, but states that Audi won't be drawn on the subject.

High revving 320bhp 3.2 V6 would be stunning in an RS3 and would seem the logical choice considering Audi's choice of NA for the RS4. If they made a Sportback version I think that would make a pretty tidy family runaround

deposit placed on the S3. Can always trade up to the RS3 if it ever becomes reality. Like the idea of 300+ bhp from a free revving N/A V6, I must admit. Surely fairly easy to liberate as well.

Good man. I can see from your profile that you have astonishingly good taste in cars.

Thanks.......... I try, had to compromise a bit with practicality and performance this time. But I think the S3 just about nails it. Obviously RS4 would have done a good job as well, but we're supposed to be ecomomising!.....

T350 and RS4 would be about as close to perfect as I can imagine. Maybe when you upgrade I can just buy your complete garage off you?
