Following my posts on the BMW pages, I'm looking at getting a luxo barge. Originally fancied a two year old 7 series which can be had for very reasonable money these days. However, the desire to subject myself to the experience that are BMW main dealers is putting me off. Also, I saw an A8 the other day drive past and I thought
So.....anyone here run a new shape A8 4.2 Quattro? Any good or bad views? Any do's or don't's spec wise / mileage wise?
Ideally want a two year old one with the toys (phone, nav, bose etc) which all seem to be on the cars I've looked at thus far.
Thanks in advance
Iain

I have a 2003 A8 4.2q- it is great! I had the most appaling drive back from work last night, over 2 hrs, traffic jams, downpours the works, but still arrived at home chilled out.
Great sounding engine, very refined ride etc, beautifully built, lots of room in the back, and a huge boot.
Does over 28mpg on a run, and usually around 23-24 out and about with my Mrs doing the school run etc.
Usually loads of gadgets, make sure yours has got sat nav, Bose surround sound, tip paddles on wheel, xenons. Sports seats are nice too, but standard ones are fine.
The big wheels look lovely, but make the ride a little more crashy, esp on the sport suspension.
IMO, the quattro drivetrain, boot space and interior room set it apart from the Jag, but the Jag is very appealing as well. We needed the space though, as the Audi A8 was as close as I was willing to get to a people carrier!

Take it for a 900km drive and when you arrive you feel like you have just nipped down the shops

Ditto - love mine. It's a Sport version and it corners hard or wafts along soft depending on the suspension setting. Its fast too with instant power - I drive it on the paddles much of the time - you need these!
