Hi, Daughters "T" plate Golf Mk 4, 1.4 57K miles runs perfectly except very jerky when going from light throttle to overrun and vice versa, all gears and revs. This car is bog standard, no mods.
VW service schedule says it neeeds plugs at 60K miles, could this be the cause?
We had this some while ago and the garage she got it from cleaned out the throttle body, but out of warranty now so down to me.
Think she runs it on supermarket petrol, could this be the cause?
Do I need to stick some injector cleaner in it? i was thinking of doing this plus putting new plugs in.
Any ideas please?

If cleaning the throttle body did it last time then that's the first thing I would try. Use the haynes manual to get to the throttle body off the car and then clean thoroughly with carb cleaner (halfords) and a toothbrush. You'll find it's basically just a tube with a cicular piece of metal (butterfly) in it. Try not to get jam any gunge in the end of the injector and try not to let the butterfly snap shut. Trying to do this by putting injector cleaner in your fuel or squirting it in you air intake won't do any noticeable good imo.

yesterday i put new bosch plugs in it and the jerkyness is gone.
It seems that VW don't change the plugs until 60K miles, and this ones on 57K.
My local indy spares shop said that they never last 60K.
Didn't clean the throttle body as only about 3000 miles since the garage did it.
I think that they probably knew it needed plugs but didn't want the expense. I had screwed them down on the price when we bought it anyway, maybe they didn't have much money left in the deal.
BTW Crook, I know it's not in the same class as a BMW M3, but that is hardly a reason to classify a Golf as "rubbish".

i am a training to be a mechanic and i think you need to get some new spark plugs for it but i would recommend changing the ht leads as well.
