Hi,

I've just bought a new car so the golf will be going soon and I'd like to know how much to ask for it.

It's a J-reg 16v mk2 Golf GTi in white with PAS. It's got about 8 months mot and no tax. The paint is ok ish but there are a few points where it has bubbles notably the tail gate corner and the bottom from corner of the passenger door. It has numerous other points where if you don't polish it the rust spots come through. Sounds bad but it's no worse than any other car of this age. The interior is spotless except for a point on one bolster on the drivers seat where the cloth has worn through. I have recently repaired the inner wing where the bonnet hinge had come adrift and when I say repaired I don't mean with a new inner wing but welded in a bracket which secures the hinge. Mechanically it's pretty good with 167k miles. The idle can be a bit rough but then most are. It uses no oil at all. It does have a leak from the diff seals but I'm repairing that. I think that the gear selector bushes are a bit worn (again, aren't they all). It's got nice alloys (BBS), toyo proxy t1r tyres, a new clutch a year or so ago, a new exhaust a year or so ago and I put a new cambelt on with idler a year ago. It has a fsh and I'll service it before it goes as I already have the stuff.

I was think of about £700 but have no real idea what they're worth. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Mark

Any chance you could qualify this a bit?

200 quid for anything with an mot is good going imo.

£700 is about right really.

Good luck.

Advertise it in the right place and you could get over a grand for it...

Golf magazines and forums..

Amazing what you can get for solid mk2's, valvers make excellent track day cars

Likewise, I would say £800 - £1200 but obviously it is hard to say without seeing the car.

I paid £1600 for my MK2 valver earlier in the year, which by the sounds of it is in better condition than yours. However, if you spent a bit of time cleaning and tidying it up I could see it fetching a grand or so...

Cheers,

Steve

If it's a 3-door, ask for 1200 and be prepared to move a little bit.

Thanks very much all (well, nearly all). I'll stick it up at 7-800 I think. I'd rather it went sooner than later.

Cheers,

Mark

Advertised it for 650 expecting 500 as it turned out it had only 2 and a half months mot on it and sold it in a day for 500 which I'm happy with.

Thanks,

Mark

Mk2 valvers go for around £1500 easy. You'd definetly be able to get a grand for it...

Am I the only one who can see Dern's post, where he said he sold the car for £500 confused
