A3 2.0TDi S Line DSG
Discussion
I have a new Passat 2.0tdi with the DSG 'box and I am impressed.
Either use it like an ordinary auto, in which case you probably won't notice a big difference over anyone elses auto, or preferably use it as a sequential gearbox in which case you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Seriously quick changes with no jerkiness, no waiting for the gearbox to catch up with the throttle, automatic matching of revs on the downshifts and loads of fun. No difference in fuel economy or performance compared to the manual either. Get it.

Drove the DSG for the first time over the weekend. It can't skip gears, but otherwise it is a seriously cool piece of kit. I can't see why anyone would ever want a manual shift again.

Can skip gears on downshift by using 'kick-down' eg at 40 mph in 6th gear a kickdown will select 2cnd by changing from 6-5-2, OK not a direct change but quicker than manually doing 6-5-4-3-2, otherwise gearchanges are sequential but then that's the proper way.
I like DSG as it gives me the best of both manual and auto and the shifts are so quick and smooth meaning I'm often shifting just because I can, only downside on mine is that the clutch is a bit 'grabby' from standing start in 1st which makes manouvering forwards slowly up to, say, a wall a little bit tricky as the clutch will on/off on use of the brake pedal, one solution is to slow it with the handbrake, clutch release is quite progressive in reverse though.
