OK, we're test driving one on Saturday. I suspect the girlfriend will be wanting to order one with the following spec:

- 5 doors
- Tornado red
- Xenons
- Armrest/CD changer combo
- Winter pack (heated seats etc.)

Comes in at just over £22k. How much do you think we can get off this? £500 maybe? There are several VW dealers near us and we are happy to go to any one of them. Cash purchase, no trade in.

P.S. it comes with mats so I can't get them to throw those in and there don't seem to be any flaps
P.P.S. We do not want to buy a parallel import or order through an internet retailer

Most dealers I spoke to a couple of months ago wouldn't budge at all on the price - they quoted the 6 month lead time for a new car and claimed they had no trouble selling them at full whack! Madness. Sourcing a parallel import from someone like EuroImports would have saved me 2 grand or so, but again the leadtime was very long. In the end I went down the road and bought a 6 month old BMW 130i.

Good luck with the legendary VW customer service

Maybe we'll persuade them to round the price down to the nearest thousand and throw in a free service or something...

They quoted 10-12 weeks delivery BTW. Maybe less if they use one of their allocations in the system already.

I'm no fan of any main dealers, they all need to pay for the shiney showrooms. Our TT is currently at a good local indie getting minor work done - went indie as soon as the warranty was up.

Excellent decision. As a pure driving machine the E87 has the Mk5 licked. Although the Golf has better build quality and packaging.

05/55 E87 130i M Sport with leather, nav and xenons for £22.5k with a bit of haggling nowadays.

We are moving from the TT to a more practical car - a 5 door Golf. The BMW 1 series is far too small. Plus I'm sorry to report that its friggin' ugly.
