Just posted this over on ukmkivs.. but figured I'd pose the question to the PH masses as well..

I'm considering having a remap carried out on the good lady's 52 plate ATD.. So i guess this poses two questions..

1.) What are the options out there? Perfomance and cost..
2.) As the car currently has just under 89k on the clock, are there any issues that we could run into by having it "chipped"..

Cheers in advance folks..

I had my 1.9 Tdi chipped from 130 to around 160 ish, and it was well worth the money! Don't really think there is an issue with 90K+ as long as you have it serviced, and take care of it as you would any other car.

Jabbasport do a re-map that will take it to 180Bhp 300lb/ft of torque.

Cost is about £500,

Awesome GTI do re-maps aswell i think,Star Performance in Scotland.

A search on the UKMKiV's will bring up loads of information.

Mine was done by the previous owner I have a PD150, it is only a mild increase in power to just under 180 bhp, but a big increase in torque. The torque increase puts a fair strain on the standard clutch which will happily slip all day long on full throttle particularily on cold days when the air is nice and dense. I would imagine if your car has not had a new clutch in its life then a new one won't be far round the corner if you go for the remap.

Still a great mod though, fuel consumption is better than standard and it goes really well in a straight line, but the handling even with the "sports pack" fitted is pretty average with loads of body roll.

Give JBS a shout www.jbsautodesigns.co.uk

They've become quite popular on the VAG remapping scene with their Custom Code remaps. Jabba would also get my vote. With a custom remap you get the opportunity to tailor the map to your spec, so they could peg the torque down to maximise the life of the clutch. If you get in on a group buy on one of the forums, like MK-IVs you should be able to get it for less than £400, with rolling road time included. A much better bet than Superchips, in my mind.

Both companies are worth looking at.

I'm thinking about an A4 130bhp TDI with 90K on the clock - Is mileage much of a consideration when it comes to remaps?

As long as its well serviced it shouldnt be a problem.
Just be carefull who you go with, some reputable companies have been known to just up the boost dramatically in the midrange to give the feeling of more power, which on a high mileage engine has been known to wear the turbo out fairly quickly.

My A4 1.9tdi (130) was remapped at about 18k miles by AMD in Bicester. Its now on 52k, and has been brilliant - best £500 Ive ever spent on a car. Its not just about the performance (took it to approx 175BHP and a similar % increase in torque) - the car is smoother at all revs, more tractable, a much improved drive overall.. as well as a great deal quicker.
Service from AMD was very good, but I think most tuners offer a similar level of service now.
Reason for choosing AMD was rather than just a 'generic' remap, they properly rolling road test the car first, then apply the remap, then refine it on the RR, producing more plots for you too, before signing the job off.
Go for it - you wont regret it. My only regret? she has to go and is now in the classifieds here.. :-(
