GTI - Top hose

Morning All,

Got my GTi 8v 1990 out of storage last week and had the full service and check done so I can enjoy her for the summer.

I have just driven 100 miles this morning, mostly motorway driving at a fairly brisk pace.

When I pulled into the car park, I though I should check everything under the bonnet.......Everything was well the only thing was..............

.....the top hose coming from the top of the radiator going into the engine was solid (as if it was full of water and might pop).


I remember years ago someone telling me that it can be a sign of head-gasket problems, but there is no gunk under the oil filler cap.....

.....So is something wrong? Is it normal? Is there air in the system ?

PS. she drove beautifully....you still can't beat the feeling of the old skool hot hatches !

The hose being solid sounds pretty normal to me. Once up to temperature the water system runs at very high pressure.
