The bit you've highlighted is the bell housing inside which is the clutch. From memory that the lowest point of the engine/gearbox so oil leaking from pretty much anywhere will drip from there. Can you see where the oil is running from to get to that point? If the rest of the engine and gearbox is dry and is actually leaking from that point then I'd suspect either the output shaft from the engine or the input shaft to the gearbox. If you can't see where the leak is coming from then get some gunk and clean the engine/box and then run it again to trace the oil. You can use talc dusted on the engine/box to trace oil leaks. Once you know where it's coming from you can go from there.

Mark

Sounds like a sump gasket possibly, gearboxes tend to leak from the diff out-put seals I think - mine did. Sump gasket is a doddle to change.

could re-use it if you save it in a suitably clean container?

One thing to check is that grade of oil - the older engines don't really like the fine synthetic stuff from what I understand and tend to weep it out of the seals when they get older.

One other thing to check is whether it is the rocker cover gasket leaking at the back of the engine and then running down the back of the block, over the box and then down the underside of the car?

I used to use semi-synth. Mine leaked from both ends (so as to speak) but the rocker cover gaskets always go (I gave up after the 5th replacement). While I remember, also check the breather pipe, as they can perish and drip a bit.
