I have just completed my first long run in my new A3 S line 140bhp (now 185 bhp) where I returned an average of 41 mpg. I managed to cover around 450 miles over fast A roads and a large proportion of motorway miles on 1 tank of fuel. The car has only covered 1500 miles and I would like to know if this is the expected range or should I be expecting better?

Are we assuming the 2.0TDI engine? If so, be careful running it in.

Your mpg will slowly increase upto an average of around 55. Full power doesn't come until you've done several K-miles.

I've a 2.0TDI Quattro now done 30,000 & average 38MPG (Mostly hard driving on A roads) it getting it's chip when it goes into the Garage in the next few weeks & probably a K&N Pannel filter at the same time.
