As above the chargers do break. The small belt driving the second shaft in the unit, snaps throwing the top of the scroll out of the casing. Belt easy to change but if it breaks, unit scrap.
The scroll seals wear causing low boost and oil in the inlet pipes again easy to replace.
The servicing of the unit is not hard as many garages would have you belive. DIY for less than £100.

I had G60 and they are great but you really need to check the history for the charger.
Rebuild is reccomended at 70k, this needs to be done correctly, the best people in the U.K. are a company alled Jabbasport and these guys are brilliant.
They regcognise the faults with the charger and modify to suit, upgraded bearings, teflon oated inpelers etc.
If a charger implodes look at a bill of £1,500

Now you've made me have a look and wonder if I can finance this?
Stop please!

Make sure you get the G-Lader serviced regularly.. I seem to remember hearing that they have a nasty habit of disassembling themselves!!

I had that very problem, took itself to pieces in a rather messy destructive way, with an equally destructive sound track, what made it worse was that I was going to to get it serviced the next week!
Fantastic car though, one of the best/most fun cars I have owned.
