I've got an S3! It's been with me for a month. When I get around to it I'll stick a photo on my profile.

All good so far

Was meaning to bring it to Virginia Water but we decided to be miserly and both go in the Griff instead!

read this and thought I'd better register

have a 265bhp/300lbft 2001 S3

seems like a good board here although I normally hang out at an Audi-specific UBB

Any thoughts on chipping my S3 1.8T Quattro?

Is the gain worth the few hundred quid or should I leave it un-modified? Any known horrors related to bothering about with the engine?

AMD (somewhere near Oxford) are the best people to speak with. I think one of their guys pops up on here every so often.

They sorted out Roops Golf GTi and I would go to them for any Audi/VW issues as they seem to know the cars inside out.

I used to have a S3, and by chipping it you can get good power gains (270BHP). There are a number of tuners offering the same kind of thing. AMD has been mentioned, but you have MTM, APR, REVO and superchips that have been mentioned here in the UK.

My biggest issue was not wanting to invalidate the warrenty but companies like REVO now do serial port programming so no need to open up the ECU.

The other mod people seem to go for is the DV as the OEm ones have had an issue of failing in the past but i believe that they have resloved the issue.

Also the brakes is a big one as well i know my S3 brakes were shite, peoples choice seem to be the porsche calipers or from a company called MOVIT.

well i had almost given up hope....its good to hear that i am not the only one out there LisaG, Adam......

Are you guys regulars at PH meets? Be good to find out what 300lbft / 265bhp is like surely there is a downfall somewhere apart from outlay?
Just wait till 380bhp in '04/5 ... RS monster, something worth saving for i reckon.

Advice please, nearly through 1st set of fronts, will just about keep me going for a couple of months till Nurburg track sessions comes around was thinking EagleF1s, comments??

Does anyone know anything about a recall on 1.8T engines? Somthing to do with the coil pack?

Don't think there is a recall, but there is definitely a problem.

See www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=31169&f=23&h=0

It's happened to my boss's TT 225 Roadster in the last couple of weeks...

Ok, I called the Audi garage and after some deliberation a guy said that he didn't know anything about the coil pack problem but if it was mis-firing I could bring it in. No other info!

It's not, so I won't!

My dealer told me that its mostly 2001/02 cars that are affected. If there have been no problems upto 10-15k then its not likely to happen, (likely - not particularly reassuring!).

Another S3 owner here,

I have a early 2002 Ebony black S3 with a Superchips remap giving roughly 265bhp/275lbft. Great cars, but its going to have to give way to my next car soon(ish) a blue noble M12 GTO-3R. general concensus over at tyresmoke.net is that AMD or Revo are the best for VAG tuning, but mine has been peachy with superchips.
The chip really does make a huge difference, the extra 60lbft torque really helps the car get over the sensation of all that weight.
Next job. Brakes

yeah unfortunatly i had to have 3 coil packs replaced on my 2001 s3

no big deal and all done under warrenty...

basically when one goes you will feel the car miss firing and running REALLY unsmoothly.. which is understandable as a 3 cylinder s3 is no joy at all

the case actually went to watchdog... some more info here:
