Opinions on the (150bhp) Mark IV 2.3V5?

Thinking about buying one of these for the wife - it's a '99 model, with auto gearbox - high spec though - factory cream Recaro leather (front and back)- heated; cruise control; climate control; upgraded stereo; rain sensing wipers etc etc. 57k miles. FVWSH.

How are these cars to live with and what should I pay for a private sale?

Also, as I enjoy driving, how can I change the suspension setup to get rid of the Mark IV's walllowy ride. It's on the standard 15" VW 2.3v5 alloys.

Same power and torque as a 1.8t with worse economy and little better sound. If it weren't for the shocking 1.4 it would be the runt of the range.

VR6 or TDi if you have to have a MK4. Better options available from Seat and Skoda otherwise.
