Pasat shocks

Bought a 2000 model TDi 115 Sport err Estate, well had to big dog.
Go's quite well after new MAF rolling road 120BHP not bad for 100k.
But...........

Handles like a roller skating hippo on acid.

So....

Anybody sad enough to try and make an estate handle?

Can't imagine it'd be that different from the saloon (albeit a little heavier). I was considering a new set of stiffer springs for the Passat. (OK, so I was also considering stripping out the rear seats and a load of the sound-proofing, but that was just silly )
