...and it was a piece of work.

Resplendant in freshly baked black, it resembled an automotive fist: tight, bristling with intent and ready to burst forward with a granite resolve.

The alloy wheels are a masterclass in acceptable bling but what held me in momentary rapture was the cultured snarl as it fired up: I had never wanted to eat a sound until that moment.

SUBLIME.

I can now understand the fuss.

My father has just ordered an Avant, based mostly on my ebullience.

I really can't wait until he gets it.

Have seen a couple RS4's when I popped back to Yorkshire over the weekend. They do look really excellent.

Yes they sound amazing don't they?!

My father has an RS4 Avant on order as well.

I think he has a shock in store as he ordered it sight-unseen and hadn't, until I pointed it out the other day, fully grasped that it had 414bhp as opposed to the 250bhp of his current car!

It's scheduled to be arriving next month and I can't wait to have a crack. If he lets me...

It is a fantastic piece of kit -- had one of the first cars ( in black ) and it is as good as they say it is

Ordered one after seeing a black one de-chromed in the dealers. then I drove it

The sound and raw pace was just incredible and the whole interior feel was just so good. Since then I've only seen two. One black one parked up and another sprint blue one flashed past me yesterday.

I simply can't wait, until march

That must be pretty much one of the first RS4 cabrios in the UK?

Yes, I beleive that it is one of the first into the UK. I was originally told it wouldn't be here till Mid July. So I'm well chuffed that it's arrived ready for Le Mans

I'm not sure about the hubcaps or the two-tone paint job.

I adore the solidity of Audi interiors, even better than the Lexus LS which was the best afaiwa.

They seem to have completely overcome any form of scuttle shake or body flex over any and all of the usual, myriad, diabolical surface abberations which now scar the surfaces of Britain's roads. Interior creaks, rattles and squeaks have been sent home with equal thoroughness.

Watching an RS6 saloon fire off through a sequence of sodden roundabouts a while back, leaving my M5 hoplessley scrabbling for traction, brought home the likelihood that Ingoldstadt has also nailed the issue of real world stability with similar aplomb.

I don't care for Audi because of the 1.9TDi or the raft of appalling, post BMW arrogant, oft 'professional' class suburbanite yobbos who typify their ownership ranks but the sheer brilliance of the product is now overcoming this bias in my fevered imagination to the point where I may succumb.

To borrow from the original EVO, "a fabulous ownership proposition."

I'm deeply jealous of my dad buying one, but it's my fault because he bought it mainly on my recommendation as I felt it was the perfect car for his needs.

Still, since I can't afford one myself, having one 'in the family' is the next best thing.

Yep, sounds the bollox - saw one parked up at the Bristol Downs while on the phone, and the owner came along while I was chatting and admiring it.

He obviously noticed I was enthuiastic about the car, and I told him to give a rev and some beans.

He didn't disappoint, and I've still got wood from the NASCAR sound it gave.

Pure Bliss.

Lucky Bastard.

oh and in Black too - very nice
