Folks, pd diesel engine has developed a strange surging on light throttle acceleration, Over the course of 5 hours this progressivly got worse. seems to happen either in or during exit of bends when light throttle is applied to pull car through and maintain track. Has been progressivly worsening over last 1k miles but seems to manifest once engine has been run for a long time.

Anyone else had MAF failure and do the symptoms correspond, it's like fuel starvation.

HELP!!

MoJo.

easy mate

i appear to be having the same problem. Around 1-2k revs, it is really erratic, seems better over higher revs though

I have since changed the air filter, and a friend with VAGCOM has re-set the engine warning light

I am going to drive it around a bit tonight/over the weekend and see what happens

for ref - audi a3 2.0tdi sport 2003 8P chassis, c. 43k miles

MAF - c. £76 + VAT, fitting is supposidly very easy, need a special torx type screwdriver.

Let us know how this develops, I will do the same

I believe that MAF problems are a common failure on VAG cars.

Thanks

Prad

hi

apart from the star shaped screwdriver head, what else do you need to do to fit one of these?

i am up for getting one aswell, how would you want to sort it out?

Thanks

Will talk to supplier Monday, he was talking of them as almost a service item due to failure rate, pretty poor quality, bit like the ignition pask issue of a year or so ago

bloody stealer wants £150 to replace one, that is including the fact that my car is under warrenty and they knocked off 50% for goodwill

they said its a 2 hour job - what a load of bu11 sh1t - i could do it myself in 10

Not impressed by the dealer, its one of the biggest dealers in the country.

ok ok, just got off the phone to them

apparently the job didn't take two hours to do so a bonus and i am relatively chuffed

if i didnt have a VAGCOM unit borrowed to diagnose the car before they did god knows what they would have said

so end of day - job done for less than £100

cant complain - too much
