...they take away my A4 (1.9 TDI) and deliver it's replacement. Will I miss it? No, not really!

However, my dislike of the car is mainly because of its contrast to the (privately owned) Saab 9-3 that preceeded it, and the resulting 'hit' I took on having to resell it after less than 2 years in my hands.

Looking at it objectively, the car has been:

1. Economical - it's vitually impossible to get less than about 45mpg
2. Comfortable - not Saab territory, but i regularly do 300 mile stints(often on the continent, and often at speed...) without undue aches and pains
3. Solid - build quality is second to none, and I shall miss quality/texture of the materials, and 'feel' of the switchgear
4. Reliable - well, modern cars should be...although there were several early visits to rectify stereo issues, it repeatedly refuses to unlock on the 'plip', and for the second time in 3 years the bonnet resolutely refuses to open (resorted to the dealer last time)
5. Vast boot!
6. Quality stereo...when working

That said, ride and handling is poor, traction control intrusive, rear space limited, engine is noisy and unrefined. Funny thing is, I would genuinely recommend one, just not the car for me - at least not in this spec.

Here endeth my rambling!

in contrast, my '53 plate A3 2.0 TDi

- not that economical (regularly get it under 40mpg without trying too hard)
- uncomfortable (back ache after more than an hour's drive)
- several little faults have caused me to visit the pompous main dealers
- squeaks and rattles like a 10yr old Fiat
- boot doesn't fit a decent sized pram
- £500 optional BOSE stereo is average at best

wish it was mine that was going tomorrrow

Just what is it with Audi dealers? "Pompous" is only scratching the surface..Audi West London managing to be rude, arrogant and patronising (usually all at once), if they bothered acknowledging I was there at all!

Only rattle that developed in 65k miles, was a change in exhaust note going through a certain rev range - it sounded like a heat shield or baffle resonating - the dealer could find nothing amiss.

Anyway, new 9-3 now gleaming outside - it'll be a while before I'm tempted back to a VAG car after my experiences with both VW and Audi customer service.
