Have just recently purchased a high mileage (94k), but nice Golf 1.8T. So just getting used to it's 'foibles'.

Any advice / guidance on the following?

Light 'tappety' noise for about 30 secs after start up. Sounds a bit like crickets on a summer evening....well, at least not like Freddy Flintoff downing 8 pints...! As soon as the idling speed drops to normal (950rpm) the noise disappears. I am pretty sure its not that I am just noticing the engine more because of the fast idle - the engine as a whole seems to smooth out and quieten down once past this initial 20-30 secs..... Oil has just been changed BTW.

Thanks for any ideas / reassurance....

Sounds about normal to me, I get a whole load of interesting noises and they all seem 'TADTS' when you ask the question somewhere with a higher VW interest.

www.uk-mkivs.com is great for all your VW questions

Mine (different car but same engine) does that too. It also makes some other disturbing sounds just after start-up, similar to a rattling chain - but all normal apparently!

Totally normal for a 1.8T.

As long as it quietens down when warmed up a bit you've nothing to worry about
