Hi all, been ages since last been on but here goes.

Yesterday the airbag fault light came on in my 03 Passat TDI Sport, has anyone else had this and was it serious? Was it costly to fix or is it something I can fix myself?

Also I took it in to get a quote for servicing (this is the first car I have had that I have ever had a dealer service it, all previous cars were pretty old so I did it myself).

For a 60K oil service £220 and a Cambelt and tensioner change £380!! £600 all in, jesus wept, plus now I have an airbag fault!!

Anyway any info would be great thanks,
Jonathan

Hi
The airbag light could be a number of things, seat belt pre tensioner, wiring under the seat, ecu, the list is quite long, best to get it diagnosed. Also a service from a dealer is expensive, if you want the dealer service stamp, get them to carry out the service and get some-one else to replace the belt/tensioners etc. This is what my brother-in-law did with his 25th Anniversary 1.8T Golf. Where abouts in the country are you?

am in the north east, near durham. To be honest thats what I am thinking of doing because to be honest I just cant afford, or I begrudge spending that kind of money for a relatively easy job to be done.

I've got a 99 A3 T Sport with exactly that fault. The AIR BAG light is permanently on. I took it to a local Audi specialist (not a main dealer) and they siad it was most likely the ECU. From Auid, that will set you back the best part of £400, but they told me that a good way to save is to contact your local breakers and let them know you are on the look-out for an ECU and they can often lift one out of a write off. I was quoted 80 quid plus a bit of labour to fit it and re calibrate the electronics. Not got round to it yet myself, but seemed like a good plan.
