Hi,

I'm looking for something family like along the lines of 530D touring, X5 or Audi A6 avant/allroad

Only problem is I can't stomach depreciation. Budget c 20K. Any advice? Safety is number 1 consideration.

can only advise you that my X5 3.0l petrol(new) was the slowest depreciation car I have ever owned.....but recently Ive noticed the 4.4 residuals seem to be taking a whack.I bought the X5 for the safety aspect as the missus spent a lot of time on the A1 between Essex n Scotland...its a V dangerous road and I decided the BMW fitted the bill perfectly
As I only took delivery of the A6 yesterday I cant comment on its depreciation yet sorry !....but it is bloody lovely !

An A6 or 530D will always depreciate further than an Allroad or an X5.

A 20k Allroad or X5 will not sting you too badly on depreciation as they have already lost 40-50% of their value and yet remain sought-after. Which, depends on your preferences. I'd have an Allroad - it's classier. X5 probably keeps your money better though.

I bought a Final Edition version of the preious model Audi A6 Avant.

It's a Jan 05 reg car and is loaded with sat nav, leather, bose etc and as an ex demo with 2,000 miles on it I paid a rather desperate dealer £20k for it.

I am looking at a new car this summer and Audi have already offered me £17.5k and the car has 18,000 miles on it.

That's not a huge amount of depreciaition in my book and I'm pleasantly surprised at how little this car is costying to run. And it's safe as house...
