RS4 delivery and Avants.
Discussion
Had a chat with local dealer today, regarding RS4 delivery times, and as per usual firstly I get a " we've sold all our allocation for this year, so rare etc " and then when he realises I'm serious I get a "well there are some around if your not too rigid about spec etc" However, he seemed very keen to talk to me about getting an Avant( which I'm not adverse to but I'm wondering why?

No the saloon looks good , but the Avant just looks ,, well it looks like the A4 A6 were designed as an Avant first then they converted it into a saloon
My last A4 was a saloon, again with spoilers and skirts etc and I kept telling myself I would get an Avant next, they do look just right. Then the DTM came up and its only in saloon so I didnt get an Avant. Promised myself the new RS4 in Avant next time But Im used to the saloon now, so Im just confusing myself
Maybe a Q7 instead?
Thanks for the replies so far. With the saloon as I said in my original post although the dealers tout the highly original line that they years allocation of saloons is sold out, they magically appear if they realise you're serious and are not too fussy on spec. How do we feel about depreciation on saloon versus estate? I know the original RS4 "Avant only" cars have done amazingly well, will this be the same on the latest version with saloon and estate?
I think you maybe mixing things up a bit. The avants( RS4 based) you quote as holding their price well were only made in avant form, not saloon. So cannot be compared to saloon counterpart. They were also a true 'limited' number and this helped the residuals.
This is the first time the RS4 has been made in saloon, avant and cabrio. Though 'most' saloons have been sold for this year they are not a limited run in the true sense. The word is that saloon production will stop for 6 months or so while they use the factory to make the avant. So that means supply of the saloon will remain low until next year when they will switch back to saloon to fullfil the next batch of orders.
My 'theory' is that if you can get your hands on a saloon right nowish then depreciation should be good until about Mar07 when the next batch appears. Also the RS4 saloon has been driven and tested and its handling confirmed to be excellent, what if the avant is not so good?
Anyway, I've got my RS4 saloon arriving in June and can't wait!!

O.k., drove one yesterday, very very impressed, but have a couple of questions for any owners on here.
1: Anyone feel that the brake pedal is way too high in relation to the acclerator as I found it virtually impossible to heel /toe.
2:No dealer seems to be able to show me the Recaros, all launch cars seem to have the std. RS4 seats ( which are still nice). It's just that I'm hoping they are a bit thinner and maybe it might release a bit more legroom behind me, as at the mo' room is a bit of a stumbling block.
All in all it's ticking nearly all the boxes, lovely engine, nice snicky box, sure footed, decent ride and involving.

I think they may be thicker due to having hard plastic backs!

The brake pedal issue is a problem on the S4 as well. The Recaro seats are easy to see - just sit in an S4 (saloon or Avant, not Cab) as they are the seats....and jolly fine they are too.

The brake pedal position seems to be a problem with all the A4s then, coz my current and last A4s were both buggers to heel and toe (I thought it was just 'coz Im not very good at it) and the rear legroom isnt brilliant. Found it a problem with my last car (standard seats) and current car (Recaros). Having done 5000 miles in them, I can confirmm the Recaros are bloomin comfy
