If its basic no frills connection your after this will do the job , you will need a charger for the i pod though .

Don't know about your model but Audi sell an Ipod cable to connect into the CD changer plug (I think VW & Audi radios are virtually the same) which not only powers the ipod but you can control tracks etc from the head unit. I'd be surprised if VW don't offer one.

Dennis - are you sure? Some of the VW radios require the connected device to identify itself so just wiring up the audio doesn't work. VW certainly make a nice neat iPod kit for the MkV at about £100, alternatively look at the Dension IceLink which has been around for longer and is defintely available for the MkIV (Gamma radio at least).
For a realy cheap solution, get one of those cassette shaped adaptors with a flying lead on. I use one with my iRiver, not superb sound quality but OK for the car.
