new S3 and RS3
Discussion
A black 55 plate Audi A3 came past me on the M20 last week...as it passed I noticed the "S3" badge.
I thought this was unusual as I didn't think the new one was out.....I caught up with the car on a gradient,,,purely for the purposes of research I wanted to see how quickly it could attain velocity on an incline.......I can confirm it clearly wasn't an S3, although didn't go too badly for a 2.0 fsi...which is what it probably was.

Sure it wasnt an S-Line badge Paul?
Definitely not.....Black car.....with "S3" badge on lower left part of the taiilgate, I was following it so had a good view.
Curiously the driver was about 45 in a suit...where as I would have expected someone a little younger and perhaps more "street".
They do make me laugh those S lines....will definitely debadge Rs4 when I get my hands on one.

Well you can buy the S3 badge for £10 so I wouldn't worry about it too much, did it look anything like this but black? http://cars.msn.co.uk/carnews/audis3s
If you get a real RS4, why take the badge off? People in the know will know what's a real one and what's a fake.

I doubt VAG will squeeze 270 BHP from the 2.0 TFSI. I'm sure it's possible, but I think they'd be more likely to stick at around 240 BHP, or go with a V6 if they have 270 in mind.
Why is that? Vag had already produced a 1.8T producing around 240-245BHP standard in the TT quattro sport and all the 210+bhp engines remap to a reliable 265ish. The new 2.0T is even higher when remapped and for the previous S3 they strngthed the engine, improved cooling and added a bigger turbo over the normal A3 1.8T. They could easily aim for more than 270bhp from the 2.0T for the S3, however as I keep saying it's all speculation until I see a press release from Audi.

The quoted power figure for the highest stock-tune 1.8T was 225 BHP IIRC. It'll chip further, and go beyond 350 with the right turbo kit, but that's not the point. Marketing and conservative, reliable mapping are the reasons why they won't do it.

the run out 1.8 tt model achieves 240bhp ish , for some reason audi decided to up the power on the old model just before the new one came in.

I know that engines frequently produce more than the quoted power, but I didn't know it had been "officially" realeased in a 240 BHP tune.

Yes it had the TT Quattro Sport as I mentioned.
I'm not sure what will happen but the old S3 was 30+bhp more than the next most powerful A3 and I'm just not sure how it'll fit next to the 3.2V6 but it remains to be seen as the 2.0t is lighter than the V6.
