Discussion
My family has just increased in size so unfortunatly I have got to sell the CTR and get an estate. However I am working to a budget and have been looking at High milage tdi Avants as they are relitivly cheap!!! Is there any thing to look out for when looking to by a high milage Audi and is it a good idea getting one at all??
your help would be greatly appreciated

High mileage audi's are no problem, just check the usual stuff like service history, cambelt changes etc...They don't cause any excitement but are a very reliable and solid car. The 2.5tdi is the better one, but they are a little more expensive to buy and run.
I had an Audi 80tdi with starship miles on it, it never missed a bit.

I have an A4 2.5tdi 2000 model and as said, there isn't much room in the back, with my little one in his chair, the passenger seat is forward,so my legs are in the glove box.If I was looking to buy,I would get an A6.My car has 120k on it and has just towed a mates westie and a heavy trailor 500 miles in a day and we managed 32mpg!!!.Doesn't use any oil etc.Look out for cambelts for the 2.5 if you head that route, its a major rebuild.Tyre wear is quite heavy on the fronts too.Brakes are cheap as chips and easy DIY.Build quality is pretty good,no sqeaks or rattles yet in ours.
My dad had a 2003 A4 Avant, while I had a Civic Type R. The Civic was much more spacious inside and the boot was hardly smaller, though differently shaped.
If you're a shortarse like me then the A4 Avant has space for other shortarses or kids in the back, and the boot is a useful shape so it's reasonably versatile, but the real step up would be having 4 doors I suppose. I bought an S6 instead, though, which has always had plenty of space for everyone and their luggage, and a secondhand A6 isn't significantly pricier than an A4.
