Few question on the R32 engine!
Discussion
as the title says i just have a qouple of questions on the R32 engine.
firstly does anyone have, or know where i could find, the dimentions of the engine??? is it longer than the 1.8T engine??
and how much does one of these things weigh fully dressed??? also how much more than the 1.8T
and finally (for now!lol) can you bolt these engines upto a normal FWD VAG gearbox??
thanks for any info you guys could give me!
Chris.

Don't know the weight or if it would fit a different gear box, but here is a pic of the engine in my A3 (same engine) mine has the DSG gearbox but I suppose the fitting is the same on a manual.
If you want I can measure the length of the block or send you bigger/better pics etc(but I'll struggle to weigh it!)

Well the cylinder head (and the block) is 54cm long and 25cm wide (not including manifolds, exhaust etc) the block appears to be narrower than the head at the front, can't see the back due to the amount of pipework etc, it is quite a compact engine & I'd be surprised if it wouldn't fit where the 4 cyl fits after all they make the same car with 1.6, 2.0 and 2.0 Diesel.
Mine is 'Quattro' (all the 3.2's are) and DSG and I believe that combination is only offered on the 3.2 - the 2.0 and 2.0 Diesel can be Quattro or DSG but not both but I don't think there's any reason for this other than marketing or cost.
The engine bay is 'cramped' to say the least and the battery sits in the boot because there's no room under the bonnet but probably also to help spread some weight rearwards.
This website; www.autozine.org/technical_school/engine/tech_engine_packaging.htm gives some info relating to the original VR6 (2.8L?) but the 3.2 is probably the same block as it wouldn't need much overbore/stroke to make the extra 400cc, It shows that it's not much longer than a 4cyl......
