Audi launches 429bhp S6 quattro
You can buy the 398lb-ft saloon now
Audi releases the latest addition to the Audi S quattro Series this week -- the meaty 429bhp V10 FSI S6 quattro. You can now order one now from your local friendly Audi dealer and it'll cost you a fairly hefty £55,330 in saloon form or £56,600 as an Avant. The first examples will reach UK customers in July.
Developed with technical input from Lamborghini, the Audi saloon and its Avant estate counterpart combine high spec features with the FSI directly injected 5.2-litre V10 petrol engine, with 398lb-ft of torque available from 3,000rpm. It results in a sprint to 62mph in 5.2 seconds (Avant 5.3 seconds) on the way to a top speed limited electronically to 155mph. Economy is fair at 21mpg.
It uses lightweight sports suspension incorporating a high proportion of aluminium and four-wheel drive with a standard 40:60 (front / rear) torque split to get the power down to the tarmac.
Visually, the S6 quattro uses Audi's now-standard big grille plus an additional central air intake flanked by larger side intakes containing LED daytime running strip lights. It gets aluminium look door mirrors, 19-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels, an integrated boot or tailgate spoiler, a built-in diffuser in a contrasting colour and four ellipsoidal exhaust tailpipes.
Inside, S quattro distinguishing features include new electrically adjustable Alcantara and leather-upholstered sports seats with integral head restraints and pronounced lateral supports, an ‘S quattro’ three-spoke leather-trimmed sports steering wheel with contrasting double seam stitching and aluminium look tiptronic gear shift paddles, plus an exclusive S quattro design for the gear knob and dials.
Also included in the UK S6 quattro specification is DVD satellite navigation built into the much praised Multi Media Interface (MMI High), a six-CD autochanger and an upgraded Driver’s Information System (DIS) with a built-in digital speedometer.
If you need a fast steer that can accommodate the family plus dog, you could do a lot worse...

aluminium look door mirrors
£56,000 and you get aluminium look mirrors? What's wrong with real aluminium??? Surely there's enough of it floating around on the production line.
Plastic is friendlier if you 'clip' someone!
RS6? Me thinks that will be Audi's 500 bhp contender.
Now where's that spare £56k gone.....
errrr... I have a local dealer but having tried to buy an Audi A8 4.2 Quattro I found them extremely unhelpful, unfriendly and downright arrogant. Happened to by passing a Lexus dealer 5 mins later and popped in to have a look at the new GS...
The Audi salesperson even asked if I was sure I could afford the car without some assistance from Audi finance!!!
A female colleague from work was in a different Audi dealer a couple of weekends ago and was informed by the (male) salesperson that the A4 Cabrio quattro would be too powerful for her and she should consider the 1.8T or even the Turbo Diesel...

Speculation that Rs6 may have up to 600bhp!!!! I would expect a Gallardo spec V10...but some banter of twin turbo version of V8 from RS4 giving the big numbers?

LED Daytime Running Strip Lights
What on earth are these? Are they really necessary and why would you need lights during "Daytime" anyway?
My A4 DTM Edition has these (Xenons, not LED?), but you can switch them off. Works just like the Volvo's side lights? IIRC at handover the salesman said that all cars (European?) will have day running lights compulsary, in a year or two. TBH I wasnt paying much attention, you know what its like when the salesman is dangling the keys to your new car under your nose and trying to run through how everything works, and all you want to do is grab the keys and head for the hills

In the US most cars have Daytime running lights. I think it adds considerably to safety. A car with it's lights on is visible from much further away even in daylight. I'd thank that extra visibility the next time someone coming my way is thinking about overtaking!!
Hmm, not in the US. The are cars with running lights, but it is not that popular in the US. It is compulsory in Canada to having running lights, so a lot of US cars also have them. Of the US spec cars out there, the Saturns are big users of running lights, as well of Volvos and SAAB's of course.

A technicality, however the point of my post was to do with the safety merits of DRL's
