Morning All,

Just got a 52-reg Passat TDI 100, for my father!

Great car, needs a service in 1000 miles so the computer keeps telling me!

Is general driving combined it is returning about 39mpg. Is this about right and would it improve after the service?

someone has told me I should easily see 44-46mpg in combined driving......they said something about MAF ?

What is this and is it expensive?

Great car though.

Thanks
Ice

MAF sensor plugs in betweeen the airbox and intake.
Its available from dealers on exchange - around £75.
Easy DIY swap.

Try unplugging it for a very short time. If the car runs the same as when in place then its shot. Cleaning with electrical contact cleaner works temporarily but once they go they really need to be changed.

Sounds like your mpg is low so MAF change might be worthwhile.
on PD110s many people use the Mercedes MAF with better results.

You sure your car is a PD100 not a PD110 ?

Im sure it is a 100, I'm guessing it is a PD engine??? 2002 52-plate?

The VW PD's were the 100, 115, 130 and 150

The 90 and 110 were TDi's

The 52 TDI Passat was not a PD.

Mrs Mook runs a 2001 TDI 130 Passat and gets 41mpg on the long term mpg readout. Depends what kind of mileage you do and where - if it's all in-town, 39 mpg would be about right.

PD or not PD ?

I'm pretty sure it says PD in the documentation somewhere ?!

It has a red I if that makes any difference?

Get that MAF tested though, and changed if necessary.
