I am looking to purchase a second-hand RS6. Some of the cars I have been looking at are out of manufacturer's warranty. Apparently Audi are charging £1500!! per year to extend the warranty. This seems ludicrously high. Are there any alternatives ?? I have looked at WarrantyDirect.com but they do not list RS6s and even then, they have a limit of £5000 per claim per year, which is pretty much worthless since I have heard an RS6 gearbox costs £15,000 and god knows how much an engine would cost.

I had a similar quote from Audi for Mrs Dan's Biturbo Allroad..

Have to say my first thought was 'blimey you don't have much confidence in these cars then'

Thing is, I suspect you are less likely to get the 'I'm sorry sir, if you take a look as Appendix L, sub-clause 486, you will see that as it was reported on a day with a 'y' in it you are not covered' crap.

So it's a question of whether you are a gambling man.

Not much help I'm afraid

Cheers Dan

Although Audis are generally pretty reliable, driving an RS6 without a warranty is like driving on the road without insurance, your unliklely to have an accident but you just never know. So taking out a warranty is like taking out an insurance policy against future bills whcih could financially ruin you.

Had mine from new and it's now approaching 60k miles and 3 yrs old. I'll be coughing up for the warranty each year, could work out very cheap if the something serious go's pop.

Definately get the Audi warranty.

Just had the gearbox replaced under warranty - went snowboarding, came back, took it out of the garage, and the dash lights lit up like a christmas tree. Not much fun. Under warranty, replaced without question, and is now back on the road.

For the record, it never gave me a hint that something was wrong earlier.

Again, definately get the Audi warranty.

Just out of interest, anyone know how much Ferrari warranties are in comparison?

definately get it - even Volvo charge £1K a year for theirs after the 3 years is up...£1500 is nothing on an RS6...pay £800 a year on my S4...if I do 20K miles a year and in 2 years Ive paid £1600 and the turbos go at 120K etc then its paid for itself 3x over.

Ferrari warranties vary with model and mileage but Ive heard figurs up to £5-6K per year ...and also heard of F360s with 15K miles on them getting service bills for like £12K inc consumables....another league...still I guess if you can really afford one then the running costs shouldnt be a worry !

My RS6 warranty runs out in March 2007 - extending it was never really in doubt, but even more so now!!!
