Picking mine up tomorrow
Enjoy it ...
Tripps said:Hope it severs you well. I find them to be an ideal city car - brisk and good in traffic, enough presence not to be intimidated, and yet not valuable enough to worry about unduly when left in dodgy places. Also, good once out on the open road (not the fastest things out there, but a damn good drive.)

Dirt cheap to run as well, if you buy bits from ECP and do your own maintenance (which is easy.)
Oli.

There are a couple of minor niggles (the previous owner did tell me about them), the o/s/f bearing or CV joint is vibrating, the clutch pedal is sticking and the rear demister doesn't work, but otherwise its great, very well screwed together and faster than I'd have thought and absolutely great in the way you can place it where you want - lights years ahead of the Mk4 chassis in my old LCR.

Hoping to do most myself, looking forward to having a car I can actually maintain rather than just hand over large sums of cash to someone who has the right computers

Mk1's better than Mk2.....:inflamessituationevenmore:

mk3 is better than mk2 .. oooer.
Batty FTO said:Never driven one, but the 1.8t Mk4 was only slightly better than the Mk3 GTi - see above ...
Mk4 non-turbo is the best Gti EVER!
Tripps - that's a good looking car. How much was it (if that's not a rude question)?
Oli.
(Edited 'cos I got the quotes wrong.)

Edition 38
had a nearside knock and the panels where sprayed not to the highest quality?
looks great mate.
bargin buy
No knocks, a minor scape along the nearside wing and passenger door, but not down to the paint, so will see what I can do with it, I'd forgotten about the painting quality he mentioned, as you really can't spot it. If I've time over the weekend I'll give it a full wash, clay and polish session and see how it all looks, but so far very happy, just been outside remove stickers from the glass (in preparation for PH ones) and changing the stereo over to something more modern.
Did you go and see it, or just spot it in the ads?

Please tell me you're having a larf, I'd forgotten all about driving one of those in the past, but I remember now how sloshy, fast and sloth-like it was, certainly didn't deserve the GTi badge in my opinion.
