a4/s4 mirrors, the same?

I've got an s reg s4, which some kind chav kicked the wing mirror off breaking the metal joint.
4 rings spares sent me a salvage one. The mirror, shell and innards are the similar but the triangular black placcy bit is bigger and the metal frame that bolts to the body is completely different.
Are a4 and s4 mirrors compatible? is there an inter model change/update?
