Advice needed from the Audi bods please.

I'm on the list for a new RS4 (April delivery) , but my only doubts are the rear seating space, and the majority of owners would prefer an Avant, and also the fact it is fifty large.
I'm selling a BMW 330i, which is a great car, but lacks rear and boot space. Will the RS4 be the same?
My other option is to buy a CHEAP RS6 second hand from my boss. He's desperate to shift it, as six cars are too many in his stable. Is fully loaded and a great spec. The only problem with his car is it has done 70,000 miles had two new turbo's and a new gear box.

So what do you think?

1. Buy a new £50k RS4 saloon and don't worry about the cost and smaller leg room?

2. Buy my bosses RS6 CHEAPLY and save some wonga?

3. Buy someone elses RS6* cheaply, save wonga and get a lower mileage car into the bargain.

Oh, and good luck for tomorrow ..... you lucky, lucky, lucky barsteward.

*I have no association, usual disclaimers apply.

The RS6 certainly won't give you any space concerns, whereas the new RS4 saloon might (I haven't checked that aspect out - I don't seem to have got much further than the engine bay and driver's seat ).

How about a bargain RS6, then a new RS4 Avant when they are released?

I thought that RS6 looked a bit too good to be true.

The RS6 Avant has slightly less leg room in the back than the saloon. Like most estates that is what suffers to get what seems to be larger load capacity.
If your bosses car is sorted then I don't see the mileage being a problem

The only downside I can see with the 6 is the brakes, other than that I would follow Jeremys advice of RS6 now, RS4 Avant when its out (perhaps order now, if you become attached to the RS6 flip the order)

So you would agree on the Avant route rather than Saloon ?

The Avant has a softer suspension that the saloon so the brakes may feel different. I've no issues with the braking

Of all the RS cars the Avants outstrip their saloon brethren hugely (slightly moot point with the RS2, theres only one saloon! and the RS4 2.7 was only Avant) so when your Rapide gets built it will be easier to shift the avant I would have thought.

Not the feel or the quality, its propensity to eat them is rather what I meant.

Perhaps another viewpoint: do you want manual, flappy paddle or auto transmission? Or don't you care?

RS4 is manual only, RS6 is flappy paddle/auto.

For what you are going to pay for the boss's RS6, you can have my RS2!

Propensity, that's a good word.........Flappy paddle = Good. Didn't think I'd like it but it's easier around town to hold a gear / speed limit. Also kick down can be really violent if it goes down 2 gears so you can avoid that. AMD gearbox re-map is meant to make it even better.
Old RS4 prices are pretty good. If you're going for an new RS4 then that would seem a more sensible route.

I didnt like tip until changing down a couple of gears entering a tunnel.

I must have gone through that tunnel about 8 times...

You can, of course, also do this in a manual .....

Personally, I've had enough of paddles. Prefer paddling the stick !

True, but a non sequential box doesnt make you *feel* like a racing driver
