Not sure if I'm allowed to post this here, but thought I'd give it a go - doesn't really seem to fit in the classifieds...

Basically, I have to VW Golf GTIs - a 1990 Mk2 16V and a 1982(?) Mk1. Both are going to be scrapped next week unless someone wants to come and pick them up. I've decided I'm never going to get around to fixing them up and selling them on so they're going one way or the other. The Mk2 is in okay nick, except for the HGF that put it off the road - it didn't cook and the cause of the HGF I believe is because the alternator belt was slipping in the wet on the motorway and I guess the water pump wasn't getting enough drive. Other than that it's pretty sound.

The Mk1 is a basket case. I only paid about £350 for it ages ago with the intention of doing it up for my (now) ex. Known problems are - slipping clutch, rusted sunroof and dented drivers door. That and the fact that the keys and immobiliser fob went walkabout a while back.

If anyone's interested, either for parts or whatever, drop me a mail and you can come and get it/them. Otherwise, the scrappy will be coming to take them away end of next week.

I'd love the MK2, but just don't have the space at the moment. Oh how deeply annoying.

Ordinarily I'd say that I'd hold onto it for you, but the reason I've finally admitted that I'm just not going to get around to fixing them is because I'll be moving soon and won't have the room myself. Sorry about that!

Crikey! I didn't expect there to be much interest to be honest. I should have done this a long time ago - I might actually be able to use my garage to service the cars that do work at this rate.

I think at this stage I shall say "No more bets please" or words to that effect as it appears both may make their way into other peoples hands. I shall post back should that not happen.

That should be two out of three scrappy fees saved then.

Weren't you building a Kit Car as well, Lexsport? I thought i saw that on your profile when I first joined.

Is it on the road yet? I thought that might be what has taken your time away from the 2 (or is it 3?) cars you are scrapping ?

Oh my God!!!

Hang on J....that car was FREE?

That is bargain of the year mate, nice one.

Have a chat with Iguana (unless you already did?), our man Alex should be able to recommend a good spanner man for the head gasket work.

Amazing value for money.

Somebody ought to grab the Mk I, if it's all there they ain't hard to fix, could have yourself a good ride for small change.

Amazing that the car shown went for free! I thought I made out to get my Mk II Scirocco for $1000 and it's nowhere near as nice. Well done!

Oh ****, how rude I have been

Thanks for the piccies Lexsport, sorry didn't reply - life is hectic at the moment... which was the only thing stopping me saying an immediate 'yes please' to the Mk1 (it would have stood rotting too long before I got around to it )

Glad somebody is having it.

Cheers, Phil

! Can't believe I've missed this! I'd have loved to have one of those cars to do up as a track car or something! Anyone else got any free cars out there by any chance?

Turns out the Mk1 is available again.

If anyone wants it, drop me a mail - first person who can take it away has it.
