After reading that JonRB and others are finding that older cars are cheaper than expected to get the work done by VW - I gave VW a call, but found they want £260 for labour alone!!!

How do you guys get your prices so cheap?

Had the cambelt changed on my Golf (Mk3, 1.8CL) and a leaking crankshaft seal replaced at VW for £130.

Helps I know the service manager I suppose (I brought the car off him) and our local VW garge in Aylesbury does a night shift mon, tues, wed and the labour is cheaper.

It was only 2 hours labour to do it on mine.

£60 plus parts sees me fine for a cambelt on an 2L 16v, non-dealer mind, but why bother with a dealer.
