Can anyone take a photo of the top alternator bracket on their mk2 16v golf gti (or describe the arrangement) please? My alternator light came on on the way home tonight. Basically the top bracket has come undone and the bolt and the bracket are somewhere on the a34 (presumably) and the alternator has moved slackening the belt off.

It looks to me like the top arm goes over a post on the engine block and then I guess a bolt goes into the block which holds some kind of bracket holding the arm on to the post... can anyone comfirm that please and I'll make one.

Thanks,

Mark

I'm afraid not as you can't see the bolt holding the top bracket on but thanks anyway.

That would be very useful if it's not too much trouble... if you don't have time don't worry there's no rush though, I'm not going to fix it until after christmas day. The bit I'm after is the point at which the top arm that links the alternator to the engine is bolted to the engine.

Thanks very much,

Mark

You're a star, thanks very much

Looks like the bracket just bolts to the block and that tall bit is just somewhere to attach an engine hoist to which I can do without for a bit so I just need a bolt and a washer, nice one

Thanks very much for taking the pictures.

All the best,

Mark
