Hi all,

My wife is looking at the Golf as a new company car, we have driven the TDI but have yet to drive the petrol GTI.

Has anyone else driven both? If so which did you prefer?

She does not have to pay for petrol / diesel so it really just does come down to how they drive - I am presuming that the normal GTI will be best but the TDI was very impressive.

Anyone got any thoughts on what they are like to live with long term and drive long distance?

Cheers

Matt

They're both great road cars, although my preferance would be for the 2.0lTFSI rather than the 2.0TDI. DSG is fantastic, definatley the option to go for. It really depends what she wants out of the car though. The only way of finding out really is by getting a test in the Gti as well!

Thanks for that. Have a test planned for Sat so we will see what she thinks.

I prefer the GTi (petrol) but I suppose it depends on how it drives, it can't be too uncomfortable as she is going to have to do some fairly long drives in it.

Currently trying to talk her into looking at an A3 2.0T Quattro as well, anyone know what they are like in comparison to the Golf?

I prefer the TDI, loads of talk and if it is a company car then probably better for tax, they are euro iv compliant. I had a 53reg TDI 110bhp adn thought it was great, plus 50mpg.

I'm Running A3 2.0TDI Quattro, (previously MK4 TDI Golf) Liking it fine but a little sluggish pretty heavy at >1½ tonnes! Will be perking it up a bit in the spring. Not sure what the golf comes with as standard, but thought it a little off to include Mat's, Armrest, and pockets on the back of the seats as extra's on the Audi! No issues as yet with the Audi @ 18,000miles.

I was waiting for this car to come out for some time and it was delayed a few months, I was led to believe (via a foreign BB) this was due to them having difficulty getting the DSG,Quattro & TDI engine to work together. (Mine is not DSG but was told they wouldn't bring out the TDI Quattro unless they could offer it with DSG)

Isn't this a no brainer, you don't pay for petrol so thats the diesel arguement out of the way.

GO FOR THE GTI.

So wht if you have to pay a little more in car tax. I know its for the wife but you will be driving it as well.

PS How did the test drive go?

Yes good point, I just didn't know if this might have been one of those occasions where the torque of the diesel was a better alternative to the supposed 'hot' model.

However, having driven the GTI at the weekend I can only say,
WOW!! What a great car, especially with the DSG box, great fun!!

So then that'll be a GTi on order with DSG box, heated seats, sunroof, front centre armrest, multifunction steering wheel and phone pack - can't wait!!

Already told the other half that evenings and weekends it's mine!!
