Hello everyone, long time lurker finally broke cover !

I have a 2002 A4 2.0SE, 40k miles, which uses 1 litre of oil about every 1500 miles. I've previously had BMW's, who didn't use this much - do I have a problem ?

The car is also very smoky when it's cold, when warmed up it's fine.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You may get discount if you buy your oil in bulk!

On a serious note it does sound like you've a problem but I wouldn't know where to begin.

It's well known that some Audi engines use a lot of oil in the first few thousand miles but I do think you've a problem there with yours.
My 1.8T used a litre in the first thousand but hasn't used a drop since, despite it having a good thrashing regularly.

If i remember correctly the 2 litre is known for "high" oil consumption.

Your dealer will however quote VAG specs at you if you query it, something along the lines of 1 litre per 1000 miles is considered normal to VAG.

I have no idea what planet they live on, given that my previous 1.8T engined Octavia RS only used 1 litre in 37000 miles excluding services...

Many thanks for the input, I'll speak to the dealer and decide what to do.
