STOP Check coolant - Aaaarrrgh!!!

why oh why oh why does this warning come on when the weather gets a bit parky? And yes, I have checked the coolant and it's fine...

Iffy sensor? Something else knacked?

Cannot help, but if I park my Mk4 GT TDI facing up my drive, I get the coolant check until the car is warm.
paniced the first time it happened, now, I park the car facing downwards an no problem.

Incidently VW checked the car last time it happened and could find nothing wrong.

Think this is very common, I got fed up with it so topped the coolant over max a little and it's not happened sinse. People have said it can be the piston that measures the level getting stuck when cold on other forums.
